Teachers: Use Banzai Today—No Paperwork Needed. This page is for district admins and educators who need compliance documentation. If you're a teacher who doesn't require a district privacy agreement (DPA), you can begin using Banzai right away.
Banzai is fully compliant with all federal and state student data privacy regulations. Review a signed DPA for your state.

We believe safeguarding student privacy is critical to a safe learning environment, and we're committed to protecting it.

Banzai acts as a "School Official" under FERPA, securely handling student data on behalf of the school.
Student data is used only for providing our educational programs.
We never sell, share, or use student data for advertising, marketing, or profiling.
Schools and districts always maintain full control and ownership of their student data.

Banzai complies with COPPA by preventing the collection of personal data from users under 13.
Students are allowed access to material with COPPA-compliant limitations.
An email address or personal contact info is not collected from students under 13.
Birth dates used for age verification are promptly discarded.

Banzai adheres to PPRA regulations by never collecting students' sensitive personal data.
We do not collect data on beliefs, mental health, or family background.
Student data is used strictly for educational purposes authorized by schools.
Schools are in control of how student data is shared and used.

We collect only what's necessary to deliver the Banzai program securely—not personally sensitive information like contact details, academic records, or medical data. For a full list of data categories, see Exhibit B in your state's DPA.

We proudly maintain SOC 2 Type II compliance. This certification reflects our commitment to:
Security: Data is encrypted at rest and in transit.
Availability: Systems are monitored and backed up daily for reliability.
Confidentiality: Access to student and teacher data is strictly limited to authorized personnel.
Privacy: We follow best practices to collect and process only necessary data.
Independent Verification: Our controls are reviewed yearly under AICPA criteria.

The driving principle behind the Banzai privacy policy is simple: the best way to secure data is to not collect it in the first place. The limited data Banzai collects is only used to deliver services or improve user experience.
Banzai doesn't require a signed DPA to get started, but your district might. We follow the same strict privacy and security standards for all users, whether or not a DPA is on file. Many educators begin using Banzai while their district handles the agreement in the background. If needed, we're happy to sign your district's DPA or provide a standard one.
Banzai takes student data security seriously and applies multiple layers of protection to keep information safe. All student data is encrypted both in transit and at rest. Access to systems is limited through role-based permissions, ensuring that only authorized personnel can view or manage sensitive information. Banzai maintains SOC 2 Type II compliance, which means our data practices are independently audited each year against rigorous industry standards.
We collect the absolute minimum information necessary for the program to function. This typically includes a first name, last name (or initial), and a username/password for logging in. We also collect basic usage data (e.g., which activities were completed) and technical data like browser type or IP address for performance and security. We never collect or store sensitive personal data like grades, family income, or medical information. For a detailed list, see Exhibit B in your state's DPA.
You can view Banzai's signed state-specific or standard data privacy agreements by selecting your state from the dropdown on our privacy page. If your district has already signed its own DPA with Banzai, it may be available through your district's tech or curriculum office. If you're unsure, feel free to reach out; we're happy to confirm or provide a copy of our standard agreement to get started.
You can expect an open-access version of Banzai in coming months, but for now, yes, students need a basic account to access activities. However, students under 13 are not asked for their email and accounts are created using class codes assigned by teachers.
